When David Servan-Schreiber, a dedicated scientist and doctor, was diagnosed with brain cancer, his life changed. Confronting what medicine knows about the illness and the little-known workings of his body’s natural cancer-fighting capabilities, and marshaling his own will to live, Servan-Schreiber found himself on a fifteen-year journey from disease and relapse into scientific exploration and, finally, to health. Combining memoir, concise explanation of what makes cancer cells thrive and what inhibits them, and drawing on both conventional and alternative ways to slow and prevent cancer, Anticancer is revolutionary.

In Loving Memory of My Friend Dr. Micki Gelb, DDS

The phone rang around 9:00 am this morning. As I picked up the receiver, I glanced outside at the most magnificent sight of snow covered evergreens, and the wind blowing a billion snowflakes in what looks like some kind of dance. “How are you Tanya?” I asked the voice on the other end. Her answer was one I’m not used to hearing, “I’m not well” she said, and then followed with the reason for her unusual greeting … “Last night Micki died.”

Micki? Dr. Micki Gelb? The man I’ve known for some three years and grown to love, respect and admire? That Micki? It can’t be, I just spoke with him on Saturday. He was so excited about scheduling his fist talk called the “Ice Breaker” at a Toastmasters club I invited him to. He asked me to evaluate his presentation and give him some feedback. Now he’s gone. My friend Micki. A man who contributed to so many and was in the process of bringing a revolutionary approach to the millions suffering with a multitude of different ailments.

I grieve your passing Micki. I mourn the loss of the contribution you would have unquestionably made to this world, and I thank you for all that you taught me. I am grateful for having known you Doctor Micki Gelb.

Your Friend, forever.
